How to Choose the Perfect Outfits for Mini Your Family Photo Shoot
One of the most common questions I get is, “What should we wear for our family photo shoot?” Don’t worry! Here’s a fun and easy guide to help you pick the perfect outfits for your next family photoshoot. Keep in mind that our mini sessions are going to be I my all white photography studio.
- Go Light and Bright: Light colours create bright, airy images, whether in a white studio or outdoors in natural daylight, such as on the beach. However, solid black, deep green, dark navy, or cherry red garments can appear quite harsh and stand out starkly. That being said, if everyone in a group wears a solid, bold colour, the overall look will be more cohesive.
- For a Moody Vibe:If you want a dramatic, moody feel, darker colours are your go-to. These look fantastic with low lighting or darker backdrops, creating a more intimate, atmospheric photo.
- Keep It Simple: Stick to a three-colour palette, with one neutral tone. More than three colours can make your photo look too busy. Think chic, not chaotic!
- Pop with Accents: Love a splash of colour? Use it for accents. For example, start with something simple like dark blue jeans, then throw in a mustard yellow scarf for a playful pop!
- Coordinate, Don’t Match: Gone are the days of everyone in matching outfits. Instead, aim for coordinated colours and styles that complement each other.
- Fit the Scene: Dress to match your location. Blues and whites for the beach, or earthy browns and khakis if you’re out in nature for the family photo shoot.
- Think About Your Home: If you’re planning to hang the photos at home, choose colours that complement your décor.
- Mix It Up: Play with solids and subtle patterns, but avoid loud prints, logos, or cartoon characters. The focus should be on your faces, not your wardrobe!
- Comfort is Key: Make sure everyone—especially Dad—is comfy. A happy dad means a happy shoot!
- Embrace the Unicorn Dress: If your little one insists on wearing that unicorn dress, just roll with it and coordinate the rest of the family’s outfits around her. Trust me, it’ll be adorable!
Bonus Tip for you mini family photo shoot!
Lay out all the outfits the day before the shoot. This avoids last-minute drama and makes sure everyone’s clothes are clean and ready to go.
